The Kuri stoneware collection is made using the traditional Japanese craft of Kurinuki, creating designs through spontaneity so that the stoneware "comes to life".
The Kurinuki technique starts with a rough lump of clay. Hands and simple cutting tools are used to create the basic shape. Finally, the item is finished and glazed. Kuri is made using natural organic shapes with a raw edge that comes from traditional craftsmanship.
The serving bowl has a smooth glaze that gives the design an extra edge and provides a graphic contrast. This contrast also helps to make the rough Kurinuki surface of the clay silky smooth and suitable for food. The reactive glaze on the inside gives each piece a unique character.
